Overwater by Tanglewood
The Newest Member of the Overwater Family!

Through more than 30 years of building bass guitars, I’ve been lucky enough to work with and learn from many great players, representing every musical style. But despite three decades of production, Overwater basses have only ever been available in relatively limited numbers, usually to players willing to wait for a custom build and able to afford the inevitable price of ‘one off’ production.

But it has long been an aspiration to be able to offer a line of ‘off the peg’ Overwater instruments at prices available to everyone – though equally important to maintain the standards we have always stood for – without compromise in design, build quality or playability!

It took me a long time to recognize that the answer to realising this ambition was in fact to release a little overall control, concentrate on what I’m good at and form a strategic alliance with a collaborator who had the resources and infrastructure to look after the production and distribution, while at the same time respecting the integrity of what we were trying to achieve.

Having made this connection, it took a while to find the right partner – but in the end, they where almost under our noses and Tanglewood Guitars stepped into the frame; a British company, but with a worldwide network of distribution and extensive knowledge and experience in quality controlled mass production.

Incorporating much of what I have learned from long established relationships with players from every genre and working with a very experienced team, including pickup designer Alan Entwistle, long time Overwater luthier Haydn Williams and bass electronics guru John East, we have been able to design each instrument in the range from the bottom up, with original Overwater hardware and electronics being used throughout.

Although firmly aimed at the mainstream market sector, we are proud of our achievements and feel these instruments are very much part of the Overwater family; we hope you agree…
