General discussion on the Overwater BYOB system
Tell us of your experience here
Edit. Hey all, thanks so much for the feedback so far, it's invaluable in helping us get this right. I'll be taking notes and putting up the ideas for discussion with Chris and Kirsty.
When using the form if you could please submit at the end, the resulting order is invaluable for testing, and of course we won't be following up as its just for test purposes... Unless you want us to, in which case drop a note in the comment box!
I like the idea and the BYOB process seemed to work OK. For me however I would have liked to connect the explanations of the elements more closely to the drop down boxes. In other words if I am selecting pick ups, I haven't got to hunt for the explanation of the variations in the RH column and then when read hunt back to the PU drop down in the LH column. The other thing for me is something that car an bike manufacturers do and that is show your bass body style with the colour of your choice. I realise this maybe an html step too far but it would be lovely to visualise your bass as you spec it up. If thats a no go then perhaps individual photos of the back and front?
just a few initial thoughts after giving the BYOB system a quick run through.
I think the idea is great. Being able to price out the options is excellent and worked flawlessly as I tried a number of different options. The layout is very clear and easy to follow, and the addition of the expandable sections on the right reduces clutter very effectively.
There are a few points/issues that may be worth a thought (if they haven't already been discussed) -
I started off with a P series - When selecting the left hand option, details about standard electronics appear but a different electronics option can still be selected further down. Switching between the options doesn’t impact on the price.
Headstock option - For those not familiar with what the ’matching’ option refers to it may help to have this described in the expandable sections.
Being able to see the designed bass would be a great feature, particularly when considering how scratch plate colours match (or don’t) with the body/hardware colours.
Would be nice if the expandable sections scrolled separately from the drop-down menus or were side by side with what they describe. I found I was scrolling up and down a fair bit to get the information I wanted.
As string spacing and scale length are largely set I felt it may make sense to include that in the Standard Component section. Some additional detail in the ’Neck and Neck Joint’ section about neck profiles would also be useful to get a clearer idea of what to expect.
Is there a need to identify the cost in dollars or euros for UK shipping?
Is there a reason for shipping not being included in the price?
Overall though, this is a great system and my only concern is that after trying it out I now want to order about three more basses.
Hey, so I gave it a quick spin and found navigation very simple, before I knew it I'd racked up nearly £4k ha ha ha
I'll spend a bit more time with it, but on the whole I'd say it's pretty good, well done.
Loving the system so far! I know you can't have every custom option available at the front end, which is fair!
I think, more of a connection to the image rather than text could be very beneficial too.
Excellent options from the menu's etc. Could be very dangerous for my bank account though! 😉
Seemed easy to use and great to see it gives a build price. Well done.
The only thing I would like to see added would be a picture of the build as you go along to see what the final bass would look like. The Public Peace configurator on their website is a good example of what I mean. Although I can appreciate it would probable take a lot of work / storage space on your server and extra expense to run.
