Almost time for Sanity Claus and endless turkey with ....
I got to thinking about all the possibilities - if money were no object - of my ultimate Overwater bass (viewers on Facebook are constantly being asked, "what would your blah, blah, blah, be!" from Overwater spokey-person(s))
Well, it's not too easy a choice: four, five, six, seven or eight string; low B or high C? Fretted, fretless, hollow body; semi-hollow; solid. 30", 34", 35", 36" or even longer scale? Bolt-on or through neck? Passive or active; pickup or pickups? Neck radius and number of frets? Headstock or headless? Tuners in a line or 'over and under'? Woods? (My God, let's not even go there!) Fingerboard: maple, rosewood, ebony, Something exotic?. Painted, tinted or solid colour. Colour, but not solid? Matte or gloss body? Matte or gloss neck? And, when finally built, a case or gig-bag, or flight-case? Straplocks or not? Which material for the strap? Flatwound, roundwound, groundwound, coated, steel, nickel for the strings? Do I want piezo or not? Single-coils or humbuckers - one (or more) of each? Where would they placed?
Given all that lot kinda makes me wish I'd decided to play the tambourine instead. If I ever got to discuss over a pint with Chris, I reckon about a month's time might have passed before a decision looked even remotely near.
I wonder how many people waiting on their very first bass from Santa this year, realise that, like a dog, a bass is not just for Christmas? It's a lifelong conundrum with no definitive answers, just more questions, followed by more questions.
Are you lucky enough to know exactly what the specifications of your ultimate Overwater would be? You might even already own it, or even worse, have once owned it, and let it go!
When it comes, have a great time and stay safe.
McBassface - very confused and dithering (as ever)
Hi McBassface,
So that was christmas! Entirely different from any Christmas before, and hopefully never again. And we're back in lockdown to boot! I Guess it leaves more time to polish up my bass skills 🙂
Get anything nice?
Stephen
@overwaterbassesHi Stephen
Vast amounts of malt whisky and cognac. Maybe folks think I have a problem. Very pleasant though, it must be said.
Picked up an Eden pre-amp pedal (I seem to remember there was once an Overwater pre-amp pedal?)
No new Oviewhater though. Damn, I must have been on the naughty step and was never told.
Happy New Year to all at OHQ.
