Second Bass?

Sometimes, I decide to take a bass from a different maker along to a gig, to act as a fallback. I have played a Gibson Ripper since I was eighteen and I still take the old dear out sometimes. I'm also partial to an RD Artist and T-birds, often borrowing from a mate of mine who is a Gibson nut.

What are your back-ups?

This is my other workhorse - an Xotic XJ-1 5 string. Used it quite a bit between November 2018 and November 2019.

My number two bass is called a Hornet, and was made by a now-gone company called E-Basses. A very different beast to my OW but makes a righteous noise.

Unusual one! That top horn looks like the M6. Looks like Kent Armstrong pups?

That is also a fine looking bass. There's just so much out there!

If we are doing a full headline show then I tend to use my Perception as the main Bass but my really special build OS4 along as back up or if I want to pose a bit!
When I fell in love with music as a kid I set my heart on a T-Bird and when a relative passed away and left me a couple of quid I bought one. If Im honest its stayed in the case and never been played. I will oneday take it to a show to make sure I get a photo of me playing it.... like I did with the other dream bass a Ric 4003 which I got the photo and flogged... hideous thing!

Love the finish on the middle OS4 in your profile pic, that has to be an 80's edition yeah? When was the one on the right made? It has the modern Progress headstock...

Sorry, missed your question, yes they're Kent Armstrongs, coupled to the builder's own preamp design. Great range of tones. It also has possibly the slimmest neck (front to back) of any bass I've ever owned. It's a complete one-off too.

Never had the chance to try one of those, but it certainly looks good. The 'thin' neck reminds me of what playing a Pedulla MVP feels like, and that feels great.

😃
