Carlos Henriquez, born in 1979 in the Bronx, began studying music early, transitioning from guitar in junior high to bass at Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program. While at LaGuardia High School of Music & Arts, he was part of a jazz ensemble that won first at the 1996 Essentially Ellington Competition. Post-1998, Henriquez joined Wynton Marsalis Septet and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, contributing to over 25 albums and collaborating with renowned artists like Chucho Valdes, Bob Dylan, and Stevie Wonder.

Since 2008, he’s been on the music faculty at Northwestern University and was the music director for a 2010 cultural exchange between the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Cuban Institute of Music. A leader in his field, Henriquez has led several Jazz at Lincoln Center concerts and has released notable projects such as “The Bronx Pyramid,” “Dizzy Con Clave,” and “The South Bronx Story.” He holds the bass chair position with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
